YOUNG ev+a: Primary Schools Design Workshops
Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10, 11, 12am
Facilitated by Pii Anttilla, Niamh O'Beirne, Tara Whelan
Utililising Eamon O'Kanes 'Eames Studio Limerick' in ev+a 2009, a resource archive about the development of architecture and design, children will explore the Interactive Research Studio discovering ways of thinking and constructing. As a part of the ev+a education programme Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to invite your school group to an ev+a tour and facilitated activity session based around this work at the former LIT/Limerick School of Art and Design building on George’s Quay.
Eamon O’Kane's 'Eames Studio Limerick' is an accessible workspace for children where many toys, shapes and drawing tools are available for them to explore their creativity. The well renowned designer Charles Eames was educated using the Froebel method of teaching, (a precursor to modern Montessori methods) which involved using blocks and essential shapes as early learning tools. Froebel's philosophy of education rested on four basic ideas: free self expression, creativity, social participation, and motor expression. This scale model of the Eames Studio and House contains a resource archive including films, drawings, books and a broad selection of Froebel toys. We would like to invite your school group to visit the exhibition in George’s Quay in particular to engage with the Eames Studio Limerick.
